1989 AHRMA-WEST 250GP Championship, 3rd.
1989 AHRMA-National 250GP Championship, 3rd

As you can see, in
CVRG and AHRMA competition, the WCBR-Ducati was a force to be reckoned with.  For 1989 I slacked off a bit… Memory fails me as to why I was in so few races that year. It was this same year that we merged the CVRG with “old AHRMA” to form the AHRMA we have today. That said, out west we didn’t have much to choose from.  Here are the results for the 250…   I was riding a 350 in the 350GP class now, so you’ll see the double duty of bumping up into another class is gone, the exception being when the 350 quit.
WCBR5 being readied for Daytona 1989.
Left: Daytona 1989; L-R: #4 is Jeff Hecox's 250 Ducati, WCBR5 250, WCBR6 350 & WCBR9 350.  During the 250GP Jeff Hecox would dog Mike Green every lap... Green did manage to pull out a small gap at one point, but lost it all when the rear brake rod snapped, thus leaving him with no rear brake. Two laps later Green did manage to get minimal breathing room and went on to win for a forth time.  Scott Borem, another CVRG rider, was 3rd on his Bultaco Matrella.
Left: Steamboat 1989;  Mike Green  jumped to an early lead in 250GP, but front brake troubles hampered his lap times... (specially made front brake shoes had been made & fitted, but they didn't work, it was either nothing or everything, thus locking the front wheel!). Soon Dave Walden appeared from behind on the Scott Borem owned Bultaco Matrella, and try as he might, Green could not match or out brake Walden...  at Steamboat Springs brakes are everything. Dave won, with Green second.
