1991 opened with no sponsors on the side of any WCBR machine at Daytona (see pic below). Just before the 250GP race former sponsors dropped by and said "hi", and one even asked about the lack of decals.  After we won the 250GP race, sponsors re-upped for another season!
At Firebird Raceway in AZ.,  we ran into troubles during practice. Upon pulling the cylinder we found a clip had come free and the wrist pin had machined a groove in the liner. The trouble began when we found we'd left the spare cylinder & pistons at home! With all the Triumph 750s there you'd think someone would sell us a piston, NOT! Fitting a new pin/clips & rings, we linded up for the 250GP -without doing a warm-up lap, and advising officials that we'd be smoking out the exhaust pipe....  We finished 2nd!
At Sears Point we were back on track with another first place. For Las Vegas we had a new cylinder head fitted with a 1038 AMAL carb & special manifold... to combat the ever faster Bultaco we were racing against.  After a very eventful race in 250GP, which saw our man cut off and pushed off a number of times; the Bultaco was finally sent dessert racing in turn-5... only to come back again, and again go dessert racing in turn-5 once again. With a lap to go and the Ducati out front the intake manifold cracked and slowed the little Ducati enough to thus allow the 'Taco to win.  At Steamboat Springs, one of our favorite tracks of all time.... the Ducati was in top form as it ran away and hid in the driving rain in 250GP action  We lost the National championship due to the fact we didn't compete back east after Daytona.
Below: Steamboat Springs has always been a favorite place to race... and in the rain it was no different! Here Mike Green pulls away from the 250GP field to take his second victory on the 250 that day... having won the 500-Sportsman race (less fairing). .
Below: Here Bret Morshead, Dave Russell and Mike Green unload bikes at Steamboat. Mike is holding onto the 250. WCBR9/350 is at the left (in front of Bret), with the 200 at right.
